A construction technique that both improves the performance of a road and relieves paving crews from a difficult task is a pretty rare find. The notched wedge joint is just such a find. Research performed in several states by members of the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) in cooperation with the National Center for Asphalt Technology shows that the notched wedge joint ensures excellent performance by increasing density along the joint.
