Applying Section 4(f): Putting Policy into Practice

NHI 142073 Applying Section 4(f): Putting Policy into Practice is a 2-day interactive course that explains the history,

purpose, and application of Section 4(f) within the context of the transportation project development process. Lessons

include identifying Section 4(f) properties; explanations on types of use; an overview of Section 4(f) approval options;

requirements for De Minimis determinations, individual 4(f) evaluations, and nationwide programmatic evaluations;

Asphalt Pavement Maintenance

This course provides relevant information to individuals who have to maintain asphalt pavements. The course material reviews the importance of preventive maintenance to the life of an asphalt pavement. The material will help participants identify common asphalt distress, the cause of the distress, and the appropriate treatments. The latest techniques, materials, and equipment will be reviewed with an emphasis on repairing the asphalt distress properly the first time. Current industry standards to properly repair problems such as cracking and potholes will be presented in detail.

ATSSA Flagger Certified Training

Purpose: To meet the requirements of Arizona Revised Statute 28-653 for flaggers to have recurrent training every four years covering the knowledge and skills for correct flagging procedures in workzones.

Topics and Objectives: Topics include flagging procedures, correct signing and personal protective equipment, emergency procedures, and the applications where flagging is needed.

Designed for: Maintenance, Traffic, Construction and others who do flagging work as a part of their duties. 

Repeat every 4 years by statute.

ATSSA Workzone Traffic Control Supervisor

The Traffic Control Supervisor is a 2-day course designed for individuals who supervise traffic control technicians and other field personnel. It provides comprehensive training on work zone standards, guidelines, installation and removal procedures, inspection, documentation and supervisory skills. Students will leave this course with the knowledge needed to interpret and implement temporary traffic control plans in the field.

ATSSA Workzone Traffic Control Technician

All those involved in construction work zone projects should have a basic knowledge of temporary traffic control that allows them to assist in installing traffic control devices, in monitoring their performance, and in recognizing deficiencies during the course of a project.

Basic Materials

The course is designed to introduce public works employees and construction personnel to various types of asphalt and soils along with their use and application.

Basic Work Zone Traffic Control / Flagger Training

This course is intended for individuals who perform flagging and temporary traffic control activities. This training session includes lectures, videos, and hands-on exercises to present the following: proper use of personal protective equipment, work zone components and types of operations, flagging procedures, proper and improper flagging operations, as well as methods of communicating with workers and the public. Individuals performing flagging operations on any Arizona roadway must be trained and qualified every four (4) years.

Certified Payroll Workshop (Contractor Pay)

The Workshop covers the Davis-Bacon And Related Acts (DBRA) law, history and application on ADOT Federal Aid construction contracts. It details the conditions (work, location, etc.) for the application of prevailing wages. Both Certified Payrolls and Weekly Statements of Compliance are explained thoroughly. Additionally, related construction forms and processes are covered which include Apprenticeships, and Subcontractor Requests.

Construction Maintenance Safety I

This course covers Federal OSHA policies, procedures and standards, as well as construction industry safety and health principles. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA Construction Industry Standards. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous in construction industries, using OSHA standards as a guide. Participants will learn to apply the appropriate Federal OSHA standard that applies to hazards present in their workplaces.

Construction/Maintenance Safety II

This course covers Federal OSHA policies, procedures and standards, as well as construction industry safety and health principles. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA Construction Industry Standards. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous in construction industries, using OSHA standards as a guide. Participants will learn to apply the appropriate Federal OSHA standard that applies to hazards present in their workplaces.
