What is the Road Safety Champion Program?

According to the National Center for Rural Road Safety, the Road Safety Champion Program (RSCP) is a nationally-recognized “Roadway Safety 101” training series. It is made for staff in transportation, public health, and first responder agencies who have an interest in roadway safety but are not safety experts.

The RSCP includes seven core modules plus career-focused pathways. Once participants complete the seven core modules and one pathway, they are awarded a Road Safety Champion Program Certificate!

What are the Program Requirements?

In order to become a Road Safety Champion, participants must first complete the seven courses within the Core Module. Once complete, they must then complete the trainings within the Career Focused Pathway. Currently, our center only offers the Maintenance & Construction pathway. The trainings in the Core Modules can be taken in any order but must be completed first before a participants can move onto courses within the Career Pathway.

Upon completing both modules, participants are awarded a Road Safety Champion Program Certificate! Those awarded will be featured in our Center's quarterly newsletters and website.

(Note: The certificate is not a degree or professional certification.)

How Can I Become a Road Safety Champion?

The Road Safety Champion Program, when taken through AZ LTAP, is open to transportation staff employed by a Local Public Agency or Tribal Nation within Arizona. Enrollment into the program is free for all agencies regardless of membership status. However, normal training attendance fees will apply.

How Do I Track My Progress and Receive My Certificates of Completion?

For each training completed within the modules, participants will be sent a Certificate of Completion. In order to receive this document, participants must track their completions on their Road Safety Champion Matrix and submit the matrix to Technical Training ([email protected]). Once received, an administrator will e-mail the certificate of completion to all relevant parties.
